About Pioneer

What is Pioneer?

This is a question that has been asked, and to which answers have been sought, many times over this past year. The truth is, Pioneer is so many things to so many people. To those describing the church landscape of the UK it is a network of charismatic evangelical churches – often called New Churches by sociologists. To others it is an opportunity for training and mentoring in leadership and evangelism. Some see Pioneer as being at the cutting edge of music, worship, theology, interaction with the rest of the world, and social action with the poor and powerless. To evangelicals at large it is a comparatively small number of people, exerting a huge influence – out of all proportion to our size. This influence is being achieved by church planting, cell church development, book writing, the making of CDs, preaching and teaching, and a commitment to involvement in mainstream education, politics, the arts, education and medicine.

The recurring themes of Prayer, Unity and Mission are being embraced by churches and travelling ministries whose main focus is the nation and nations. Prayer seems to be emerging at every level, often twinned with developing relationships with Christians outside of our network. Some are asking, what does it mean to be church together in the locality rather than a successful local church? As for mission – 'a journey with a purpose' increasing numbers are reviewing the effectiveness of what we are doing and how we are doing it. We are not afraid of reviewing our models, measuring our success in evangelism and discipleship, and we seek to do so continually in the light of scripture.

As you go through the pages of this Review, be encouraged! Together we are enabling the love, grace and compassion of God – His perseverance with the human race – to become known in more and more places in our own nations and the nations of the world. 'Even so – come Lord Jesus.'

Pioneer is

  • A network of churches and training initiatives - More than 80 Partnership churches of various sizes and with varying structures, distributed across the UK and many more Associate churches in mainland Europe, Africa, India, Asia and the USA, are all seeking to impact their localities with the gospel. • An Association of ministries, leaders and initiators - Many individuals with national and international ministries find their home within Pioneer. Their influence extends across many wider church structures, the media, the arts, politics and business.

  • Movements within a movement - Pioneer has strong links with various different expressions of the gospel, reaching out into diverse settings, and around which different people groups are gathering.
Much of the vision of Pioneer is worked out at a local level and is resourced by individual churches.
